Big Media needs to stop being Dad or the kids won’t listen any longer

After reading The Economist’s Face Value profile of David Sifry, the founder of Technorati in its 6/10/05 issue ( www.economist.com/business/story_id=4484119 ) it occurred to me that “Big Media” need to adapt to the fragmentation of mass media audiences by making a paradigm shift from treating audiences paternalistically — as children to be talked down to — to adults to be consulted and interacted with (moving from a Parent Transactional Analysis role to one of Adult taking to another Adult)
“We” in Big Media are not the experts about what’s news any longer — the audience is!We need to give people what they want, how they want it, when they want it (the BBC calls this “Martini media”) or they’ll go to someone else who will!
