The Torygraph starts to get serious about monetising digital
Today’s Media Week has the Telegraph’s launch of a social networking add-on to its BMD announcements, where contributors can upload content, including images, to their own personal announcement Web pages hosted by the Telegraph. Friends and family sent links will be able to add comments thereafter.
Sounds like a good way of driving print readers old and new to the site, where they may stay longer and then come back at other times. Or just post their own notice. Meanwhile advertisers will have a good upscale demographic to pitch to. Nice way to monetise your demographics in the new medium!
Plan is to extend the idea to other classified ad such as dating, jobs, motors, property and travel. All naturals for UGC…properly monitored! While their multimedia editorial publishing plans look a tad ambitious in their attempt to get all staff doing all media, this looks a bit more commercial and realistic. Watch for the model to be copied elsewhere.
