Good news for papers – online is set to overtake print!
Amid the gloomy news about advertising in paper brands there’s some hope, from one of the items you’d also see in a Porter’s Five Forces analysis — the Internet.
Press Gazette is reporting that a study is predicting online will overtake radio soon and probably newsprint before long. Which is good for those making the effort to get into online properly. And bad news for those who don’t see the inevitable future as well as Rupert does.
For the Luddites and Canutes I would say which part of the word newspaper is more important, news or paper?
The first will inevitable survive online and in whatever other media come along and the latter will sink and maybe die altogether as a daily medium because of the economics of it will stop being profitable. Or profitable enough.
So get with the programme or watch your treasured bit of dead tree die, and the brand with it.
