Supporting local business is a win-win

http://www.holdthefrontpage.co.uk/2010/news/newspaper-urges-readers-to-shop-local-for-campaign/
The ‘shop local’ campaigns reported here are a good example of the kind of community involvement that can be a win-win for everyone involved.
The newspaper is seen to support the local community (and hopefully pick up some more advertising) and improve its contacts with local businesses and image while readers should become more aware of what they can get locally and the small businesses should hopefully benefit too.
My only disappointment — that the paper has limited it to a summer campaign only. Why not run it all the time with occasional updates? Sadly, I suspect they don’t want the firms getting the idea they can have free editorial all the time, instead of having to pay for advertorials.
But surely quarterly campaign updates wouldn’t hurt.
